#EndSARS: Stop the Killings, ANEEJ Urges Buhari, UN

BENIN-CITY, NIGERIA. October 21, 2020…. The Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) has condemned the killing of EndSARS protesters in Lekki tollgate Tuesday night, as well as the killings in Benin and other parts of the country, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to take urgent steps to halt the killings.

Executive Director of ANEEJ, the Rev David Ugolor in a statement in Benin today urged the United Nations to wade into the Nigerian crisis before it is too late, warning that it might be very difficult for the UN System to cope with the humanitarian crisis that would arise if the situation is allowed to degenerate.

Ugolor stated that it was wrong for security men to embark on shooting spree on defenseless and peaceful protesters at Lekki Toll Gate.

“We condemn the massacre of our innocent and defenseless comrades in Lagos and all killings in Benin, Jos and other parts of Nigeria. Government of President Muhammadu Buhari was elected to protect lives and property of Nigerians.

“Mr. Buhari needs to address Nigerians on this conflagration and take urgent steps to halt the mayhem across the country as his primary responsibility.” Ugolor said

“We call on the United Nations to intervene urgently in the Nigerian situation before it gets out of control. Such a move from the UN will be seen as prevention of anarchy in the most populous black nation as the world will be overwhelmed with the humanitarian crisis that will result if the situation is allowed to further escalate,” the ANEEJ helmsman cautioned.

He called on security chiefs to call their officers and men to order immediately as their main responsibility is to save lives and not to take lives of defenseless people holding national flag.
