More groups warn FG against Jega’s sack

Nigerians United for Democracy (NUD), Edo State Chapter, has warned the federal government against any attempt to send the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, on compulsory leave, insisting that he should be allowed to conduct the 2015 general elections.

Representative of the Stakeholders on Conflict Resolution and Early Warning (SCREW), Comrade Igbotako Nowinta, gave this warning at the launch of the Edo State chapter of NUD in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Saturday.

Nowinta while shedding light on the activities of the organisation, noted that recent happenings in the polity have drawn their attention as a coalition of Edo State civil society to resuscitate the NUD in order to redirect the steps of the government over what could be termed undemocratic policies.

Nowinta pointed out that INEC has repeatedly assured Nigerians of its readiness to conduct the 2015 general elections that strongly relies on the use of card readers. He called on Nigerians to resist any move made to stop the use of the permanent voter cards if they must have credible elections.
