ANEEJ Hosts Resilience Training to Empower Ologbo Community Against Human Trafficking
Benin, Edo State — May 23, 2025 — The Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) has conducted a one-day resilience training for selected beneficiaries in the Ologbo community as part of its ongoing project, “Addressing Human Trafficking Through Empowerment with Income-Generating Skills.” The initiative is supported by the Resilience Fund through the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC).
The training aimed to equip vulnerable individuals with practical vocational skills, thereby reducing their susceptibility to human trafficking and exploitation.
The event opened with remarks from ANEEJ’s Finance and Administration Manager, Mrs. Mary Igharo, who spoke on behalf of the Executive Director, Rev. David Ugolor. In her address, she urged participants to embrace the opportunity to build sustainable livelihoods that will positively impact their futures.
Programme Officer, Ugwu Tracy Chioma presented the project’s objectives, highlighting the critical role of economic empowerment in disrupting trafficking networks. The training session, themed “The Future is Skilled – Top Vocational Skills in High Demand,” was led by ANEEJ’s delivery partner, Mr. Victor Oriakhi and focused on equipping participants with practical, market-driven skills.
In addition to the group session, one-on-one engagements were held between beneficiaries and trainers to provide personalized guidance. Participants also had the opportunity to interact with prospective mentors who will support them in their vocational journey.
The training session was attended by ANEEJ staff including Kelly Umukoro, community facilitators, beneficiaries, delivery partners, and Ms. Sandra Eguagie, Nigeria Grant Liaison for the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC).
This training marks a significant step in ANEEJ’s broader commitment to addressing human trafficking through community-based empowerment strategies.
