Insights from the Future of Energy Conference 2024 (#FEC2024)– Shaping Africa’s Energy Future
ACCRA, GHANA…From August 26th to August 28th, Accra, the capital of Ghana, was transformed into a hub of innovation and strategic discourse as the Future of Energy Conference 2024 (#FEC2024) brought together industry leaders, policymakers, CSOs, and innovators from across Africa and beyond. Themed “Harnessing Africa’s Resource Wealth: Fueling Innovation for Equitable Energy Access,” the conference focused on the critical need to accelerate efforts toward addressing energy poverty in Africa.
The conference kicked off in a grand style with a powerful keynote address by H.E Mohamed Nasheed, Secretary General of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) and the Vulnerable Twenty Group (V20), and former President of the Maldives. His remarks set the tone for the discussions, emphasizing the urgency of driving a just and inclusive energy transition across the continent.
ANEEJ was well-represented at the event by the trio: Innocent Edemhanria, Uthman Adeleye, and Erhisohwode Ovie Assurance. Together with other stakeholders from across the continent, they engaged in critical conversations on innovative research and development, as well as the application of technology to boost Africa’s energy transition process. The event, convened by the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) with support from Ford Foundation, NRGI, and others, also featured panel discussions, side events, and an exciting innovation challenge, setting the stage for a dynamic and impactful conference.
As the curtains closed on the Future of Energy Conference 2024, participants reflected on an incredible three days filled with knowledge sharing, collaboration, and strategic planning for Africa’s energy future. The conference provided a platform for robust discussions on innovative strategies to ensure a just and inclusive energy transition, addressing the energy needs of local communities, and empowering Africa’s youth and women to play leading roles in driving sustainable energy initiatives.
Key highlights from the conference included empowering communities through supportive government policies, exploring new financial strategies for sustainable energy, and the crucial role of youth and women in building resilience and driving innovation in the energy sector. The event concluded with the presentation of awards and certificates to participants of the innovation challenge, celebrating their contributions to shaping the future of energy in Africa.
