ANEEJ tasks Tinubu on war against corruption, socio-inclusive reforms

BENIN CITY, NIGERIA. July 10, 2023… The Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice, ANEEJ, has called on President Bola Ahamed Tinubu to roll out its anti-corruption war in line with his electioneering commitment to continue the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war.

ANEEJ Executive Director and Vice President of UNCAC Coalition, Rev David Ugolor, as part of the African Union anti-corruption Day, 2023, as part of this year’s African Union anti-corruption Day, also urged President Tinubu to work with the 10th National Assembly for the speedy passage of the Whistleblower Protection and Witness Protection Bills direly need to strengthening the war against graft from where former President Buhari let off.

This year’s African Union Anti-Corruption Day with the theme, “AUCPCC, 20 Years after: Achievements and Prospects,”is being marked with various programmes and activities across the continent from the 9th-12 July 2023.

“As we mark this year’s Africa Union Anti-corruption Day, 2023, it is only important that as a leading anti-corruption watchdog, we hold our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to account on his commitment during the electioneering campaigns to continue ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s fightagainst corruption.

“One way we feel that the President can hit the ground running in the anti-corruption space is for him to work with the leadership of the National Assembly to ensure the speedy passage of two major anti-corruption Bills that could not be completed under the Buhari administration, these are: the Whistleblower Protection and Witness Protection Bills,” Ugolor said.

The Rev. David Ugolor, who is also the Head of the Anti-corruption Cluster of the SCALE project being implemented by Palladium with Funding from USAID, tasked President Tinubu to take steps to guarantee freedom, equality, justice, peace and dignity as well as ensure the achievement of the legitimate aspiration of all Nigerians in line with African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption target.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to take the lead in the enforcement of Article 3 of the Constitutive Act of the African Union which charges Africa Union Member States to coordinate and intensify their cooperation, unity, cohesion and efforts to achieve a better life for the peoples of Africa and also ensure the effective implementation of the  AU Common Africa Position on Asset Recovery(CAPAR) in Nigeria.
